WordPress Security – Ways to secure

•July 31, 2013 • 1 Comment

Lets admitted, WordPress is one of the best thing that happened to web design….. well lets not say best but is one of the best/easiest way for any non-web savvy/designer person to have a professional look website, of course the real pros are the one making the complex themes and plugins so you can just only fill some blanks and upload a few pictures to have a whole professional looking web page.

But like everything on the web one of the main concern is the security aspect and one of the most overlook by almost anyone non-technical that just want web presence, The one that only fill the blanks and press Publish, yeah you manage to buy a domain, pay for hosting press the “WordPress one-click install” button and upload a theme. But WordPress is all about making it easy that’s what plugins is all about, right ? lets review two of the plugins you should have, In my whole opinion. remember anything is 100% secure unless is unplugged.

1.  Better WP security

Its an all in one security plugin easy to configure and free, it just scan your site and you are presented with a list of things to change to make the site more secure its easy you just to have to follow the instructions.

2. BackWPup

Like everything in this digital era Backup is always important is the best way to get everything up again if something happens. BackWPup is easy, free and get the job done, you to backup anything from the DB to themes and plugins.

Schedule backups jobs and send them to  different destinations, you even get emailed with a log if there was something wrong with the job.

Removing all hyperlinks in Word !

•October 30, 2009 • Leave a Comment

As simple as may sound I always forgot how to remove all the hyperlinks from a Word documents, instead of going right-click one by one, this of course is when you have a lot of them. You can use this shortcut or make it more elaborated and make a macro.

Select all the document(Ctrl-A) or the paragraph you want to remove the hyperlinks from and…press

Ctrl + Shift + F9

Press [ALT]+[F11] to open the Visual Basic Editor

Go to “Insert” > “Module” and in the pop-up window copy:

Sub RemoveHyperlinks()
Dim oField As Field
For Each oField In ActiveDocument.Fields
If oField.Type = wdFieldHyperlink Then
End If
Set oField = Nothing
End Sub

Then click “File” > Close and return to Microsoft Word

You can now run the Macro in Word by going to:

Tools > Macro > Macro and then Run “RemoveAllHyperlinks”

Sometimes is good to be anonymous and prevents accidents from others trying to connect to your computer, this is to hide your computer name from others computers in the same network under network in Vista.
to check if is hidden first. open a command prompt or CMD.
> net config server
look under Server Hidden if says yes theres nothing more to do is says no you can hide it by typing.
>net config server /hidden:yes
enter and restart.

*this will not take out the ability to browse your computer if you know your computer name. this only hide the name from the network

Browse and view .PSD/.AI thumbnails w/wo Photoshop/Illustrator

•March 5, 2009 • 3 Comments

If for some reason you have Photoshop .psd files and you dont have Photoshop installed here is a method so you can browser those thumbnails.

Is also a good method for viewing thumbnails of those files in Window explorer instead of the Photoshop icon in some versions of Photoshop.

The same is for Illustrator files all is include in the download.

1.Copy both .dll files to  C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Shell     if this folder doesn’t exist create it.

2. Run both .reg files one is for Illustrator files the other for Photoshop files.

3. Reboot if needed.
